Primer · The small print

Last updated 1 October 20262 min read

This page explains what Primer collects when you take a course with us, why we need it and how you stay in control. We keep it short, and we never sell your data.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address and the password you choose (stored scrambled, never readable by us).
  • Your learning: the courses you join, the lessons you watch, how far you get and the notes you leave for yourself.
  • Your projects: the photos and short videos of your work that you upload for feedback, and the notes your teacher draws back on them.
  • Payments: the plan you pick and your billing country. Card details go straight to our payment processor and never touch our servers.
  • Device basics: your browser, screen size and rough location (country or city, never your street), so lessons play at the right quality.

Why we use it

We use your details to run your account, save your progress, send your work to your teacher and email you about your courses. If you join the weekly free lesson email, we send that too. You can leave it with one click in any email. We never use your data to train software, and we never buy lists of other people's data.

Your work and your teacher

Only you, your teacher and a small support team can see the projects you upload. We never show your work on our website or in our adverts unless you say yes first, in writing, for that one piece.

Who helps us

A few trusted services help us run Primer: a payment processor for cards and refunds, video hosting for the lessons, email delivery, and simple analytics that tell us which lessons people finish. Each one may only use your data to do that job for us.

How long we keep it

  • Your account and progress: for as long as your account is open.
  • Uploaded projects and feedback: until you delete them, or 12 months after you close your account.
  • Payment records: 7 years, because tax law asks us to.

Your rights

  • Ask for a copy of everything we hold about you.
  • Correct anything that is wrong, or download your projects.
  • Close your account and have your data deleted.
  • Complain to your local data protection authority if you think we got something wrong.
Write to us and we answer every privacy question within 30 days. Most get a reply the same week.
