Cookies are small text files a website saves in your browser. This page lists the ones Primer uses, what each one does and how to turn them off. We use as few as we can, and none of them follow you around other websites.

Cookies we need

These keep the site working. They keep you signed in, remember which lesson you were on and protect our forms from spam. They can't be switched off from our banner, because without them you couldn't watch a course.

  • Sign-in: keeps you logged in between lessons. Kept for 30 days.
  • Lesson position: remembers where you paused a video. Kept for 12 months.
  • Cookie choice: remembers what you picked in our cookie banner. Kept for 12 months.

Analytics cookies

With your consent, we count which pages people visit, which lessons they finish and where they give up. The numbers are grouped, never tied to your name, and they tell us which lessons to film again.

  • Site analytics: pages and visits, kept for 14 months.
  • Lesson analytics: which lessons are finished or skipped, kept for 14 months.

Video and payment cookies

Our video player may set a cookie to remember your volume, quality and caption settings. When you pay, our payment processor sets its own cookies to keep the payment safe and stop fraud. Both only load on the pages that need them.

Advertising cookies

We don't use advertising cookies inside your account or on lesson pages. If we ever run adverts for Primer, we will list the cookies here first and ask before setting them.

Cookies on shared computers

If you learn on a shared or school computer, sign out when you finish a lesson. Signing out deletes the sign-in cookie straight away, so the next person can't open your courses, see your projects or read your teacher's notes. Your progress is saved to your account, not to the computer, so nothing is lost.

How to turn them off

  • Use the cookie banner, or the cookie settings link in the footer, to change your choice at any time.
  • Your browser settings can block or delete cookies for any site.
  • Private or incognito windows delete cookies when you close them.
Saying no to analytics never stops you watching a lesson or getting feedback.

Changes

When we add or remove a tool that sets cookies, we update this page and the date at the top. Questions go to hello@primer.school.
